Rajamouli wrote the screenplay from the original story written by KV Vijayendra Prasad. Rajamouli read stories about the events in the lives of Rama Raju and Bhim and connected the coincidence between them. The thought of how they became friends during the years they were formed prompted Rajamouli to make a film. A fictional story about two legendary Indian revolutionaries and their journey from home before they fought for the country in the 1920s.
